Color Inspiration #118

Happy Thursday! It's time for another Color Inspiration Challenge.

This week I decided to pull the colors from one color family: Earth Elements.

When I first discovered Stampin' Up! over 6 years ago, I really disliked the Earth Elements color family. Now, it's one of my favorites. It's amazing how our tastes change over the years.

I decided to play with a stamp set I just ordered. Actually, it was a freebie during Sale-a-bration. It's called Happy Together, and it's adorable.

Ever since I was little, I remember my mom looking for the first robin. Robins are a sign that Spring is on it's way. I carry that same tradition on with my family (and you've heard me talk about it on my blog over the past couple of weeks).

Let's talk about the card......

The base card is Chocolate Chip.

The next layers on the card uses the color blocking technique.

The Ruby Red layer is stamped with the Woodgrain background stamp using Ruby Red ink.

The Creamy Caramel and Garden Green layers are sponged with Close to Cocoa ink.

The focal image is made with the Oval Bigz die and Whisper White cardstock. I stamped the birdies with Basic Brown ink. I then used my aquapainter to color their bellies (with Ruby Red ink) and their feathers (with Creamy Caramel ink). Now, the birds needed to be grounded. So I used my Sahara Sand marker and aquapainter to color in some dirt. I sponged the edges of the oval with Close to Cocoa ink. It still needed something, so I spritzed with the Color Spritzer Tool and a Chocolate Chip marker.

For the scalloped border, I cut a 1 1/4" x 11" piece of More Mustard cardstock. I used the Eyelet Border Punch along one of the edges. I then ran it through the crimper three times to really break the fibers of the cardstock. I then put adhesive on the back of the oval and "gathered" the eyelet strip along the edge to form the fancy border.

To finish off this card, I stamped the sentiment onto a scrap of More Mustard, punched it with the Small Oval punch and sponged the edges with......care to guess?????......yup, Close to Cocoa ink.

All that's left is the knot of Chocolate Chip wide grosgrain and the More Mustard photo corner!!!

Are you ready to try these colors? I hope so!!!! Make sure you leave a comment on this post with a link to your creation!!!

  2. A card made with these colours can be found on my blog. I found it really challenging to put this card together, and I warn you to put on your sunglasses before viewing this card.
