Color Inspiration #139

Happy Thursday! This week, it's my turn to challenge you with a brand new Color Inspiration.

For the past couple of weeks, my family has been clothes shopping....A LOT! Being the mom to two teenagers, finding school clothes is not as easy as it used to be. Remember when you picked out their outfit and they were okay with it? I think the last time that happened was kindergarten, but it was such a happy time! LOL!!

Since clothes have been on my mind lately, I thought I would use some fashion for inspiration this week.

This picture comes from Coldwater Creek.

This week's color challenge is: Pacific Point, Bashful Blue and Basic Gray.

I don't use gray all that often.....so I am really excited to see what you all come up with.

If you decide to play the Stamping 411 Color Inspiration Challenge, we'd love to see your project.

It's easy to link your project to our blog. Just copy and paste your project's URL into the Linky Tool at the bottom of this post!!!

Until next time....Happy Stamping everyone!

Thrifty 3D Wednesday

Let's face it...we always want to get the most for our money! So, for my 3D how-to feature this week, I want to show you how to make two projects using the fun Scallop Envelope Die!

The Scallop Envelope die is fun all by itself with a little notecard tucked inside and hanging on the side of a gift bag or as a little love note tucked into a child's lunchbox.

But, you can also use it on the front of a card! On this card, I made one of the Scallop Envelopes from Pumpkin Pie cardstock. Inside, I stamped the images from Wicked Cool with Basic Black Ink and the words with Old Olive on Whisper White. I layered it on Old Olive cardstock. I added Rhinestone jewels in the center of the spider web and on the laces of the boots! I colored the socks with my Old Olive and Pumpkin Pie Stampin' Write Markers. I stamped the bats in Basic Black on the back flap of the envelope and added a piece of Wicked Fun Designer Paper on the front. I wrapped some of the Black Raven Lace Ribbon around and tied a bow on the front of the envelope. In the background I used the Spider Web Impressions Folder that I highlighted with the Platinum Shimmer Paint and more of the Wicked Fun DSP. The base card is Pumpkin Pie.

For the scallop envelope box, I used two of the dies cut from Pumpkin Pie cardstock. I cut the bottom flaps 1/2" from the bottom score line. Then I added Sticky Strip to the tabs on one side and one of the bottom flaps. Starting with the bottom flaps, remove the red liner and adhere them together. (Note: stamp on the envelopes before you put them together...trust me! lol!) Remove the side liners and adhere the tabs together on the sides.

I folded the front scallop piece down and left the back one standing up. I again decorated the front with Wicked Fun Designer Paper, wrapped the Raven Lace Trim around and tied with a bow. I stamped Spooky from Wicked Cool stamp set on the front, along with some more bats, in Basic Black. Inside, two Ghirardelli Chocolates fit perfectly...a nice little gift for a special co-worker or friend!

Hope you enjoyed a couple ideas on using the Scallop Envelope Die!

Saturday Sketch Challenge 167

Good Evening Friends!

It's time for another fun sketch from your 411 operators! I can tell you that the operators took a LOT of liberties to make their cards work for this weeks sketch.

As with EVERY week, if you need to change it up, do so! You just want to use this sketch as a jumping off point for your design then let your imagination do the rest!

You may have noticed that there are some new and exciting things happening with 411, and there is! Here's our new line up....

  • Selene and Gretchen will be switching off on the Friday night posts for the sketch challenge every week.
  • Patti and Kerin are teaming up for Thursdays and will offer a color challenge and a technique challenge that will alternate every other week, and stay open for two weeks! Fun!!!
  • Tiffany will be doing a scrapbook 101 the first Wed of every month.
  • Connie will be doing a 3D how to on the second Wed of every month.
  • Lee will write a tutorial of some type on the 3rd Wed of every month.
  • Robin will be offering a Clean and Simple post on the 4th Wed of every month.

Each of the operators will be stepping up and making 411 an even BETTER resource for the new stamper/paper crafter/scrapbooker. In addition, it's important for the folks that have been crafting FOREVER to get back to the basics and that's our goal moving forward... We are a true team in every sense of the word and it's a pleasure to share with them and with you every week.

If you're uploading your card to an online gallery, please use keyword SSC167. If you've never done a challenge and you're looking for a place to post your cards so folks can see them, one of my favorite places to post cards is stampin addicts. If you want, you can check it out!
Measurements:

I'm going to guess at Gretchen's measurements because she's on top this week. Super Spooky card Gretchen!! These are just one set of potential measurements if your starting from scratch..

Base layer: 11 x 4 1/4", scored and folded in half at 5 1/2"
Layer 2: 4 x 5 1/4"
Layer 3: 1 1/2" x 4"
Layer 4: ribbon:
Layer 5: 3 1/2" x 4"
Layer 6,7 and 8: 3 x 3 3/4"

Above all please have fun and just go for it! Does the thought of cutting your card stock using measurements baffle you? Well, you can check out the most awesome post on how to read a ruler written by the very lovely and talented Lee Conrey, by clicking here.
